I Am Human (trans rights)
(No.2 of 3) designs from a social justice illustration series I created during 2020 surrounding the rising protests for trans rights and fighting back against the bombardment of hateful laws being pased against some of the most vulnerable people in our country. The HRC Foundation has estimated that there are more than 2 million trans people across the United States. And three out of every ten adults in the U.S. personally knows someone who is trans. Only 21 states expressly prohibit gender identity discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations under state law, leaving transgender people in many parts of the country particularly vulnerable to mistreatment. transgender people continue to face widespread hostility in many parts of the United States. In 2021-2022, lawmakers introduced a record number of anti-transgender bills in state legislatures, seeking to restrict transgender people’s access to health care, bathrooms, and sports and recreation. Transgender people are at significant risk of violence and harassment in the US.
